The legend of the Swan Song hearkens back to the European mute Swan who is silent throughout its lifetime, only to sing one beautiful song just before it dies.
Swan Song is a metaphor to a final gesture before retirement. In 1934, Mikhail Fokin; choreographer, explained that ‘The Dying Swan’ danced by Anna Pavlova was not to showcase technique but to create “A symbol of everlasting struggle in this life and all that is mortal."
My Swan Song denoted the end of my teaching career.
