The Muse (My Grandmother)
Beading on Silk/Vintage Fabrics Size: 220 x 500
Olive Ruby Sandow (1895 -1976)
Using textiles and beading, I pay homage to my grandmother, my muse, who taught me to sew. I have used vintage fabrics to give this work authenticity for the period in which she lived while serving as Western Australia’s first postmistress. Her Post Office at Lower Chittering became an important communication centre for surrounding districts during the Second World War. She is recognized for her service on the Pioneer Womens Memorial at Kings Park.
